It Starts With Us - Book review

It Starts with Us is the second novel in a romance duology by Colleen Hoover, following It Ends with Us. The novel continues the story of Lily Bloom, a single mother escaping an abusive marriage and reuniting with her first love, Atlas Corrigan, a chef who escaped his violent family as a teen.

The novel opens with Lily on the run from her abusive husband, Ryle Kincaid. She flees to Boston, where she reconnects with Atlas, who she had a summer fling with when they were teenagers. Atlas is now a successful chef, and he offers Lily a place to stay while she gets back on her feet.

Lily and Atlas quickly fall back in love, but their relationship is complicated by the fact that Lily is still dealing with the trauma of her marriage to Ryle. She is also struggling to trust Atlas, who has a dark secret from his past.

As Lily and Atlas try to build a new life together, they must face the challenges of their pasts and the uncertainty of the future. They must also decide if they are willing to risk their hearts for love.

It Starts with Us is a beautifully written novel that explores the themes of love, loss, trauma, and healing. The author does an excellent job of capturing the complex emotions of her characters. The novel is also full of humor and hope, and it ultimately leaves the reader feeling uplifted and inspired.

One of the things that I love most about It Starts with Us is the characters. Lily and Atlas are both complex and well-developed characters, and I found myself rooting for them from the very beginning. Lily is a strong and resilient woman who is trying to rebuild her life after a difficult past. Atlas is a kind and caring man who is trying to make amends for his past mistakes.

The author tackles difficult topics. The novel deals with some heavy subject matter, such as abuse, trauma, and addiction. However, the author does not shy away from these topics. She writes about them in a way that is honest and realistic, and she does not sugarcoat the pain and suffering that her characters experience.

Despite the heavy subject matter, It Starts with Us is ultimately a hopeful novel. The author shows us that it is possible to heal from trauma and find love and happiness. She also shows us that it is never too late to start over.

If you are looking for a beautifully written, emotionally powerful novel that will stay with you long after you finish reading it, then I highly recommend It Starts with Us. It is a book that will make you laugh, cry, and think. It is a book that will stay with you long after you finish reading it.

Here are some additional thoughts on the book:

  1. I loved the way that the author explored the theme of second chances in this novel. Lily and Atlas both have made mistakes in the past, but they are both trying to do better. They are both trying to find their way back to happiness.
  2. I also loved the way that the author handled the topic of trauma in this novel. She did not shy away from the pain and suffering that Lily and Atlas experience. However, she also showed us how they are able to heal and move on with their lives.
  3. I think that It Starts with Us is a very important novel. It is a novel that can help people who are struggling with trauma and abuse. It is a novel that can give people hope that they can heal and find happiness.

Overall, I thought that It Starts with Us was a beautiful and powerful novel. It is a novel that will stay with me long after I finish reading it. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good read.
